How to fix iPhone speaker not working after iOS 18 update

Last Updated on September 27, 2024 by Stacey Butler

  • If your iPhone speaker is not working after iOS 18 update, there are some simple ways to troubleshoot possible problems.
  • To fix iOS 18 speaker problem, make sure that the iPhone isn’t muted with the silent switch or with Focus mode.
  • You should also make sure AirPlay isn’t enabled and your phone isn’t connected to an audio accessory via Bluetooth.

The speaker is an important part of your iPhone. If your iPhone’s speaker isn’t working after the latest iOS 18 update, that’s a serious problem — you can’t hear phone calls, music, or notifications. Here are the top ways to troubleshoot your iOS 18 speaker issues and hear your audio once again.

How To Fix iPhone Speaker Problems in iOS 18

1. Make sure the audio isn’t silent

It’s possible you accidentally set your phone to a silent mode, so the speaker works fine — it’s just muted.

On the upper lefthand side of your iPhone is the hardware switch that you use to turn sound on and off. You know the iPhone is in silent mode if you can see a little strip of orange above the button.

This can often be turned on by mistake while taking the iPhone out of a pocket or while it’s in a bag. Take a quick look to see if that’s the case. If so, slide it back and your iPhone speaker should instantly start playing sound.

Note: If you are using an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, or iPhone 16 Pro Max, simply long press the Action Button to unmute your device. You should feel a single haptic pulse and see a "Ring" icon appear in the ‌Dynamic Island‌.

2. See if Focus Mode is on

Another common reason you may think iPhones speaker is not working is when the Focus mode gets turned on accidentally or is left on after a meeting has finished.

To work out if this is the case, swipe down from the top of the screen to see the Control Center and make sure the Focus button says Focus rather than another setting. If it says Do Not Disturb, Personal, or another setting, tap it to disable Focus mode.

3. Make sure you’re not sending audio to AirPlay

If you have various other Apple devices, then AirPlay could be the culprit here. Perhaps you previously sent your audio through your HomePod? To check, swipe down from the top of the screen to see the Control Center and then tap the AirPlay icon at the top right of the music playback section. If another device is receiving audio with AirPlay, tap iPhone to revert back to your own device.

4. Disconnect audio accessories

Another possibility your iPhone speaker is not working is that your phone could be connected to another audio accessory via Bluetooth. This means that any music or other sounds will be sent to that device rather than played through your iPhone speaker.

To fix this, swipe down from the top-right of the iPhone screen to open Control Center. Look at the audio icon — if there is an icon of a pair of headphones there, then the iPhone is still connected to them. To disconnect them, you can tap the Bluetooth icon in Control Center to switch Bluetooth off. Alternatively, go into Bluetooth settings and tell the iPhone to Forget This Device. You would have to re-pair the headphones with your iPhone later, but that’s no biggie.

5. Clean your speaker

An iPhone’s speakers can become clogged with dirt, dust, dead skin cells, and more, reducing the quality of playback and making calls harder to hear.

To clean your iPhone speaker, remove your iPhone case and screen protector if it’s affecting the speaker in any way. Then check to see if it’s dirty. If necessary, carefully use a small, dry soft-bristled brush to clear away any lint, dirt, or grime.

6. Restart your iPhone

If your iPhone speaker is still not working, it’s time to try the age-old solution of turning it off and turning it back on. Your non-functioning speaker might just have a few gremlins in the system, which will be flushed out with a system reboot. Simply restart your iPhone and test your speakers again.

7. Check the volume levels

It’s easy to accidentally turn the volume all the way down on your iPhone. If you keep your iPhone in your pocket, then leaning or sitting in certain positions can cause the volume buttons to be pressed, which in turn makes the device silent.

To check if this is the case, unlock your iPhone and hold the volume up button until your iPhone is turned all the way up. If the volume isn’t turning up even as you hold down the volume up button, check your sound settings on your phone, by going to Settings–>Sounds & Haptics. Here, find out how high the ring volume is. Again, it is so easy to have turned the volume all the way down and not even realized it.

8. Reach out to Apple customer support

If none of those options worked, the problem is probably hardware related and you’ll need to seek help from Apple Support.

How to fix iPhone not turning off after iOS 18 update

Last Updated on September 27, 2024 by Stacey Butler

  • If your iPhone won’t turn off after iOS 18 update, you can force it to restart.
  • If you’re still having problems, you can always contact Apple support.

You probably don’t turn off your iPhone often, but when you do, the usual method is to use a button combination and an onscreen slider to restart the device.

But what if that doesn’t work, or your iPhone is frozen and won’t respond to screen inputs? That’s when it’s time to force restart your phone.

Of course, it’s possible there’s a more serious problem. If a force restart doesn’t work, you can always contact Apple support for assistance.

What to do when your iPhone won’t turn off after iOS 18 update

Force restart your iPhone

If you can’t turn your iPhone off on iOS 18, your first option is a force-restart. In most scenarios, this method should get rid of minor software glitch that’s preventing your iPhone from shutting down. Here’s how:

  1. Quickly press and release the Volume Up button.
  2. Quickly press and release the Volume Down button.
  3. Press and hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears, then release the Side button.

During this process, you will see a slider to power off the iPhone. You’re going to want to ignore it and continue holding down the Side button until the screen goes black. At that point, the Apple logo will pop up, and after the restart is complete, the screen will activate once again.

Now, if you do want to shut the ‌iPhone‌ down, you can do so by going to the General section of the Settingsapp, scrolling down to the bottom, and choosing the Shut Down option.

Contact Apple support

If you are still unable to shut down your iPhone, you should contact Apple support for assistance.

How to fix iPhone “Call Failed” issue on iOS 18

Last Updated on September 27, 2024 by Stacey Butler

Several users have reported that they can’t make phone calls on their iPhone. They are getting the error message “Call Failed” when they attempt to make a call on their iPhone. They have further said the problem started after the iOS 18 update. This article lists several simple steps you can try to solve the iPhone call failed error in iOS 18.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • If you’re iPhone is saying call failed any time you tried to make a call on iOS 18, you should toggle Airplane mode, restart your phone, and reset your SIM card.
  • You can also reset your iPhone’s network settings to fix iOS 18 call failed issue.

“Two

Why does my iPhone keep saying call failed on iOS 18?

A call failed error on iOS 18 could be because of a problem with your cellular provider or your iPhone. Whatever the cause, here are all the different ways to fix a call failed error on your device.

How to fix call failed on iPhone on iOS 18

Try these steps in order. After trying each step below, open the Phone app and try to make a call on your iPhone to see if you’ve fixed your issue.

Try your call again

I know this sounds obvious, but the first thing you should do is to try calling again. Often, a call will fail as a result of a temporary network glitch, and the call will work just fine a minute later. Before trying other troubleshooting steps mentioned below, tap the dial button to redial your last number.

Close and reopen the Phone app

Often, a software glitch is easily solved just by restarting the program that’s misbehaving. Simply close the Phone app and then start the Phone app a second time. If the app was suffering a minor software problem, it might now work. Here’s how:

iPhones With Face ID including iPhone 16

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open the app switcher. You should see all of your apps represented as cards.
  2. Swipe side-to-side through your apps until you find the Phone app.
  3. Swipe up on the Phone app. When it disappears off the top of the screen, it’s closed.

iPhones Without Face ID including (iPhone SE, 3rd generation)

  1. Double-press the Home button. This starts the app switcher, where you should see all of your apps represented as cards.
  2. Swipe side-to-side through your apps until you find the Phone app.
  3. Swipe up on the Phone app. When it disappears off the top of the screen, it’s closed.

Toggle Airplane mode

One of the most common reasons a call may fail on iOS 18 is because of a glitch with your cellular connection. You can resolve this by toggling your cellular connection off and back on again. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap the switch next to Airplane Mode to turn it on.
  3. Wait about 30 seconds.
  4. Tap the Airplane mode switch again to re-enable your cellular network.

Try moving your location

While relatively rare, dead spots still exist and you might see No Service error on your iPhone. You might encounter this when underground (in a basement or on mass transit) or in a rural area. Reception issues can also happen if you’re near another country’s border and your phone thinks you’re roaming. If this is the case, you should try moving to an area or location with a stronger signal and dial again.

Restart your iPhone

If you have gotten this far and your iPhone keep saying “Call Failed,” restart your device. There might be a glitch with your Phone app or your phone’s network connection that turning it off and back on again will solve.

iPhones With Face ID

  1. Press and hold both the Side button and either of the Volume buttons.
  2. When a slider labeled slide to power offappears at the top of the screen, drag it to the right.
  3. Wait a few seconds, then press and hold the side button to turn your iPhone back on.
  4. Release the side button when the Apple logo appears.

iPhones Without Face ID

  1. Press and hold the Power button.
  2. When the slide to power off appears at the top of the screen, drag it to the right.
  3. Wait a few seconds, then press and hold the power button again to turn your iPhone on again.
  4. You can release the power button when the Apple logo appears on the screen.

Check For An iOS Update

If you are still having trouble making calls, ensure that your iPhone is running the latest version of iOS. Here is how you can check for iOS update:

  1. Make sure your iPhone is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
  2. Open your phone’s Settings app, tap General, and then tap Software Update.
  3. If there is an update available, tap Update Now.

Check For A Carrier Settings Update

While rare, it’s sometimes possible that your phone’s carrier settings might be to blame for the call failed error. That’s especially true if your cellular provider has recently updated its configuration and the changes failed to update automatically on your phone for some reason. To check for a carrier setting update, follow the steps below:

  1. Make sure your iPhone is connected to a Wi-Fi or cellular network.
  2. Open your phone’s Settings app, tap General, and then tap About.
  3. Scroll down to Carrier. Next to Carrier, if a new update is available, you’ll see an option to perform this update.

Remove and reinstall the SIM card

If you still see call failed error message, it’s possible that there’s a problem with the way your iPhone’s SIM card is seated in its tray, and the phone is having trouble reading all the contacts on the card. You can resolve this problem by reseating your SIM card. Here’s how:

  1. Locate the SIM card tray on your iPhone.
  2. Gently press the tip of your ejection tool or paperclip into the hole and press into the bottom of the SIM card tray until the tray pops out.
  3. Make sure the SIM card is seated properly in its tray and then reinsert it carefully.

Reset your network settings

If you’ve tried everything else in this list and you still can’t complete any phone calls due to the Call Failed error, it might be time to reset network settings on your iPhone. It’s worth noting that this troubleshooting step will erase all your network settings, including any saved WiFi network passwords and paired Bluetooth devices.

Nonetheless, this might resolve call failed issue. Follow the steps below:

  1. Open your phone’s Settings app, tap General, and then tap Transfer or Reset iPhone.
  2. Tap Reset, and then tap Reset Network Settings.
  3. When asked, enter your iPhone passcode, and then tap Reset Network Settings to confirm.

Contact your carrier

There are many reasons why calls might be failing on your iPhone. And, if after troubleshooting things for yourself, you find that you are still unable to complete any phone calls due to the Call Failed error, it’s time to contact your phone carrier. They should be able to walk you through your options, and, hopefully, fix the issue.

How to update iOS software on your iPhone

Last Updated on January 13, 2024 by Stacey Butler

Learn how to update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • You can update your iPhone from the Software Update section of the Settings app.
  • It’s possible to set up automatic updates on your iPhone, so it downloads whenever a new iOS is available.
  • If your iPhone won’t update to the new iOS, it might be too old or not have enough storage space.

Apple releases updates for the iPhone pretty regularly. In addition to at least one major update to the OS each year, there are generally a few incremental updates throughout the year, often to fix bugs and perform security improvements.

You can set your iPhone to update itself automatically, or manually update it yourself. Here’s what you should know.

Before installing iOS update, back up your iPhone

Diving into all the new features of the latest iOS update can be exciting, but you’ll want to backup your iPhone before updating to the new operating system. You should do this because it is possible that you may lose your data in the updating process. Backing up your iPhone will also give you the option to revert to the previous version of iOS if you find that the current iOS version isn’t right for you.

With default settings enabled, your iPhone will back up your data regularly during sleep hours, if it’s connected to power and Wi-Fi. However, if the automatic backup feature is disabled, you can go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup and then hit Back Up Now to manually back up your device.

How to update your iPhone automatically

The easiest (and most secure) way to manage iPhone updates is to let your device handle it.

Here’s how to make sure your iPhone is ready to update automatically:

  1. Start the Settings app.
  2. Tap "General."
  3. Tap "Software Update."
  4. Tap “Automatic Updates.”
  5. Turn on “Download iOS Updates.”
  6. Turn on “Install iOS Updates.”

When both switches are turned on, your iPhone will download update files to the phone and then install them automatically overnight, when your phone is charging and locked.

Note: If you prefer, you can turn off Install iOS Updates but leave Download iOS Updates turned on. If you do this, the update will download to the phone and wait for you to install it manually.

How to update your iPhone manually

If you want to manage updates yourself, or the phone isn’t installing updates automatically for some reason, you can do it yourself.

  1. Start the Settings app.
  2. Tap "General."
  3. Tap "Software Update."
  4. If there is an update available, tap Download and Install. Agree to the terms and conditions, and wait while the update downloads to your phone.
  5. Finally, tap Install to complete the update.

Troubleshooting tips if your iPhone won’t update

If your iPhone won’t update either manually or automatically, try these troubleshooting methods.

Make sure your iPhone is compatible

Before starting to install iOS update, find out if your iPhone is compatible. Here’s the full list of the iPhones that supports Apple’s new software update.

  • iPhone XS
  • iPhone XS Max
  • iPhone XR
  • iPhone 11
  • iPhone 11 Pro
  • iPhone 11 Pro Max
  • iPhone 12
  • iPhone 12 Mini
  • iPhone 12 Pro
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max
  • iPhone 13
  • iPhone 13 Mini
  • iPhone 13 Pro
  • iPhone 13 Pro Max
  • iPhone SE (second generation and later)
  • iPhone 14 (and Plus)
  • iPhone 14 Pro (and Pro Max)
  • iPhone 15 (and Plus)
  • iPhone 15 Pro (and Pro Max)

Check that you have enough available storage

Major iOS update file size are usually several gigabytes, and if you’re running out of storage, you’ll need to clear some room before you can download and install iOS update.

To see how much free space your phone has right now, open the Settings app, tap General, and select iPhone Storage. The amount of storage you have available will be listed at the top of the iPhone Storage page.

Quick tip: If you don’t have enough free space, you can delete unnecessary apps and files to free up space on your iPhone.

Make sure your iPhone is connected to power

You won’t be able to download iOS update if you’re under 50% battery, so it’s safest to plug in your phone while you update. Even if you’re plugged in, the battery needs to be over 20% to install iOS update.

Connect to WiFi

You won’t be able to download iOS update using your mobile data, so connect to a stable Wi-Fi network before starting the installation.

For the best results, perform the update at home or in the office, where you know you have dependable WiFi.

Restart your iPhone

Restarting your iPhone can solve any number of small glitches, including corrupted files or other bugs that can interfere with an iOS update.

For details on how to restart your iPhone, check out our article on restarting and force-restarting any iPhone model.

Update your iPhone from your computer

On rare occasions, you might run into a glitch and find that your iPhone can’t install an update, either automatically or manually. If that happens, you can install it from a PC or Mac.

  1. Plug your iPhone into your computer.
    • On a Mac (macOS 10.15 or later): In the Finder sidebar, select your iPhone, then click General at the top of the window.
    • On a Mac (macOS 10.14 or earlier) or a Windows PC: Open the iTunes app, click the button resembling an iPhone near the top left of the iTunes window, then click Summary.
  2. Click Check for Update.
  3. To install an available update, click Update.

How to fix iPhone Camera not working after iOS 18 update

Last Updated on September 26, 2024 by Stacey Butler

If your iPhone camera is not working after iOS 18 update, there are a few easy fixes you can try.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • To fix iPhone camera not working after iOS 18 issue, you should close and reopen the Camera app, as well as restart your phone and make sure it’s updated to the latest iOS 18 version.
  • If this doesn’t work, you could try resetting your iPhone to its factory settings — back it up first so you don’t lose all your data — or contact Apple for further support.

“The

Newer iPhones like iPhone 16 Pro feature amazing cameras capable of taking professional grade portraits and recording truly cinematic video. For example, on iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 models, you can capture 48-megapixel images, high definition video, slow motion clips, and amazing panoramic images.

But the high-quality hardware built into these phones is worthless if the software that utilizes them isn’t working.

If your iPhone camera is not taking photos after iOS 18 update, it’s almost always a software issue, not a problem with the lenses or sensors.

Here’s what you can do to fix it.

How to fix iPhone Camera not working on iOS 18 issue

1. Close and reopen the Camera app

If your iPhone camera is not working after iOS update, start by closing the app completely and reopening it again. This is extremely easy to do.

  1. If your iPhone has a Home button, double-tap it to bring up the App Switcher. If it doesn’t, swipe up from the bottom of the screen, hold your finger when it reaches the middle, and release it when the App Switcher shows up.
  2. Swipe up on the camera app window. This will close down the camera.
  3. Wait a few seconds.
  4. To open the camera app again, tap the camera icon on your home screen. This will usually get it to work properly.

2. Switch between the front and rear camera

If your iPhone camera is not working, it’s possible that the app has not loaded properly. One of the ways to unblock any bottlenecks is to flip between the front camera and back camera and back again. This will hopefully help to get things moving.

  1. Open the Camera app.
  2. Tap the two circular arrows next to the shutter button to flip between cameras.

3. Restart your iPhone

A simple reboot can work wonders. I find that this fixes most camera-related issues and bugs about 90% of the time. It’s also a simple solution, so you should also give it a chance.

  • If you’re iPhone has a Face ID, restart the device by simultaneously holding down the volume down button and the power button. When the slide to power off option appears on-screen, swipe right. Wait 15 to 20 seconds before powering your iPhone back on.
  • If you’re iPhone has a Home button, restart the device by holding down the power button. When the slide to power off option appears on-screen, swipe right. Wait 15 to 20 seconds before powering your iPhone back on.

4. Update your iPhone

If your iPhone camera falls victim to a random bug or any other software issue, it’s a good idea to check for any available iOS updates. iOS updates usually come with performance improvements and bug fixes. One of these may fix any issues your camera is running into.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Go into General.
  3. Hit Software Update and install any updates.

5. Remove any lens obstruction

Lens obstruction is one of the more common reasons why your iPhone camera isn’t taking pictures. First, make sure your hand or fingers aren’t blocking the lens. It’s easy to do, especially when you’re excited to capture that perfect shot. Second, check if your phone case is wholly or partially blocking the lens. Some cases can be installed upside down on the iPhone.

6. Clean the camera lens

If the photos you take with your iPhone camera are blurry or out of focus, take a clean microfiber cloth and wipe the lens. If you see dirt or debris behind the glass, take your iPhone to an Apple Store or Authorized Service Provider for a repair.

7. Avoid overheating

When an iPhone gets too hot, it can malfunction. Be careful when using the flash for long videos or in hot environments. If your iPhone gets too hot, it might disable the flash entirely until it has cooled down again. If your phone is overheating, you should see an on-screen message stating the iPhone needs to cool down before you use it. If you see this message, turn off your iPhone for a few minutes to give it a chance to cool. If you haven’t seen this message, but your iPhone feels hot to the touch, power it off.

Even as few as 10 minutes can make a difference in the temperature of your phone. However, if it begins to overheat again for no apparent reason, go to your local Apple Store or the Apple Support website for repair or replacement details.

8. Reset All Settings

Sometimes you or another app may change settings on your iPhone that cause your camera or Camera app to stop working or malfunction. One way to eliminate this possibility is to reset all the settings on your iPhone.

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Go into General.
  3. Hit Transfer or Reset iPhone.
  4. Tap Reset.
  5. Tap Reset All Settings and confirm.

9. Factory reset your iPhone

A factory reset will wipe your phone clean and bring it back to factory settings. Just make sure to backup any important files before you do this, as everything in your phone will be gone after a factory reset.

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Go into General.
  3. Hit Transfer or Reset iPhone.
  4. Select Erase all Content & Settings.
  5. Tap Continue.
  6. Tap Erase iPhone.

10. Contact Apple Support

If your iPhone camera is still not working, you may be having a hardware issue that can only be fixed by Apple. Contact Apple support for assistance. . If you still have a valid warranty on your phone, you may even be able to get the phone replaced if the camera problem is not fixable.

FAQs

How to fix iPhone Not Receiving Text Messages on iOS 18 issue

Last Updated on September 27, 2024 by Stacey Butler

Here are ten ways to fix your iPhone if it isn’t receiving text messages after iOS 18 update.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • To fix an iPhone that’s not receiving text messages on iOS 18, first ensure that you have a solid cellular connection.
  • Next, try toggling Airplane Mode and restarting the Messages app.
  • You should also make sure you’re not blocking the phone number that’s trying to text you.

Missing and delayed text messages can be frustrating, especially since you may not be aware of the problem until somebody contacts you using another method to ask why you’re not responding or where you are. Luckily, troubleshooting an iPhone that’s not receiving text messages after the recent iOS 18 update is pretty easy. Here’s what we’ve found works.

How to Fix iPhone Not Receiving Text messages on iOS 18

If you don’t receive texts on iPhone in iOS 18, and you know someone is sending them to you, these troubleshooting steps can help you clear up the issue. Before getting started, it’s always a good idea to test your ability to receive texts from a few different people, if possible. That could yield some clues as to what the problem might be.

1. Check your network connection.

If you don’t have good cell coverage you won’t be able to receive text messages on your iPhone. Text messages rely on your phone’s cellular service, not Wi-Fi. So in order to get text messages, you need a solid cellular signal. Take a look at the status bar and if you see SOS only,” or “no service,” you may need to walk or travel until you find a place with two bars or better. Usually at least some texts should get through with a single bar.

2. Toggle Airplane mode

Not getting a text you’re expecting? Perhaps you’re not getting any messages because there’s a glitch with your cellular radio or the wireless software. Turning your iPhone’s Airplane Mode on and off, you’ll force the iPhone to request a new connection to the network, and texting should start working again.

You can toggle your iPhone’s Airplane Mode on and off from the Control Center.

  1. To reveal the Control Center on iPhone XR or later, swipe down from the top right corner of the screen. If you’re on iPhone SE (2nd generation) or later, swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap on the Airplane Mode icon, which is represented by a plane inside a circle. When the icon is orange, Airplane Mode is enabled; when it’s grayed out, it’s disabled.

Quick tip: You can also turn Airplane Mode on or off by opening the Settings app and tapping the toggle for Airplane Mode.

3. Restart The Messages App

If your iPhone isn’t receiving text messages in iOS 18, try restarting the Messages app. On many occasions, I have managed to fix issues related to messages by closing and reopening the Messages app. So, you should give this nifty troubleshooting tip a chance.

  • If your iPhone has a Home Button: Double-press the Home button -> Find Messages in the app switcher and swipe it up.
  • On iPhone without the Home Button: Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to access the App Switcher -> swipe left/right to find Messages and swipe it up.
  • Now, launch Messages and try sending texts again.

4. Make sure the number isn’t blocked

If the contact or number you blocked sends you a text message, you will not receive it. These text messages will go nowhere. So, if you know someone is sending you texts, but you’re not receiving those texts on your iPhone, check to see if the number is blocked.

  1. Open the Settings app and tap Apps.
  2. Go into Messages.
  3. Tap on Blocked Contacts. If you see any familiar names or numbers there that you still want to talk to, tap Edit.
  4. Tap the red minus icon next to the contact(s) you want to unblock.
  5. Once you’re satisfied, tap Done.

5. Restart your iPhone

If your problem continues, rebooting your iPhone might get the text coming through again. Sometimes there are endless loops or other issues behind the scenes that you may be unable to diagnose but are easily solved with a reboot.

  • On iPhone models with a home button like iPhone SE (2nd generation), hold down the power button on the right side then drag the power off slider. Hold down the Side button to turn on your iPhone.
  • On iPhone models without a home button like iPhone 16, hold down the power button on the right side and the volume up button on the left side then swipe the power slider to power down. Hold down the Side button to turn on your iPhone. When you turn it back on, it may well be able to receive messages again.

6. Update your iPhone to the latest iOS 18 version’

It’s also possible that there’s a iOS bug that’s preventing your iPhone from receiving text Messages. Install any outstanding iOS 18 update, even if an update doesn’t seem relevant to the problem you experience. Since Messages is a native iOS app, updating your iPhone might fix it.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap Software Update.
  4. If an update is available, tap update now.

7. Check for a carrier settings update

Carrier settings contain important data about your selected network that allow you to send and receive text messages, make calls, check voicemails, and use data. Ensuring that your carrier settings are up to date is important, especially if you are not receiving text messages.

  1. Connect to a cell phone or Wi-Fi network of your choice.
  2. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  3. Tap General.
  4. Tap About. Should an update be available, you’ll be able to do so from this screen.

8. Contact your carrier

If you are still experiencing this problem, contact your carrier to ensure that the network isn’t experiencing outages, that your account is in good standing and your service operational, and that your iPhone isn’t blocked from receiving text messages.

9. Reset your network settings

If you’ve tried everything above and your iPhone still won’t receive text messages, it’s time to reset network settings.

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Go into General.
  3. Scroll down and tap Transfer or Reset iPhone.

iPhone 15 Cellular Data not working? Here are some solutions

Last Updated on December 24, 2023 by Stacey Butler

Some iPhone 15 (including iPhone 15, 15 Pro, 15 Plus and 15 Pro Max) owners seem to experience an issue where the iPhone’s cellular connection is not working as expected even when in an area with good cellular reception. With this particular problem, the cellular data connection keeps getting lost even though the cellular status icons (like 3G, 4G,5G or LTE) and the signal strength bars show it is connected to a cellular network.

If your iPhone 14 cellular data is not working, you won’t be able to connect to the Internet unless there is Wi-Fi. If you are having this issue, you may get “Network Error” or “Could Not Activate Cellular Data Network” types of error messages as you use your iPhone in a way that requires a cellular connection. In this article, i’ll explain how you can fix this problem.

Note: information in this article apply to iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Signs of this iPhone 15 cellular data issue:

Unless you are connected to Wi-Fi, you may experience the following:

  • Apps that require an Internet connection won’t work. For example, you won’t be able to send or receive emails or load websites in Safari.
  • Texts, including iMessages and SMS messages, won’t work.
  • Phone calls will not work. You won’t be able to make or receive calls.
  • You may see a No Service or Searching notification.

Ways to fix the iPhone 15 cellular data issues

Try these troubleshooting steps until your issue is resolved:

1. Turn on and off Airplane Mode

Sometimes the most obvious fix is the most reliable one. If your mobile data is giving you trouble, one of the first things you should try is turning airplane mode on and off.

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Tap Airplane Mode to turn the feature on.
  3. Wait 10 seconds.
  4. Tap Airplane Mode to turn the feature off.

2. Update iOS

If your iPhone 15 cellular data is not working because of an iOS bug, an update could fix it. Check if there is an iOS update and if there is, update your iPhone.

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap Software Update.
  4. If an update is available, tap Download and Install. Additionally, you may want to turn on Automatic Updates.

3. Turn off Wi-Fi calling

Some affected users have said that disabling Wi-Fi calling fixed the cellular data problem on their iPhones:

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Tap Phone.
  3. Tap Wi-Fi Calling.
  4. Turn off the Wi-Fi Calling on This iPhone option. Test to see if the iPhone 15 cellular data issue continues. If it does, you may want to turn this back on.

This may not be the fix you want. If turning off Wi-Fi calling fixes your iPhone 15 cellular data issue, I recommend you periodically check the software update (see #3) and carrier settings update (see #5) to see if any update may fix this problem. If this is a widespread issue, probably Apple or the carrier will release an update for it.

4. Restart your iPhone 15 to fix cellular data problems

If your iPhone 15 cellular data is still not working, restart your device. This can resolve a lot of network and connection-related problems, and only takes a few minutes to shut it off and then turn it back on again.

  1. Press and hold the Side button and one of the volume buttons (up or down) until the power off screen appears.
  2. Drag the power off slider to the right.
  3. Wait a few seconds for the device to turn off.
  4. Press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo.

5. Update carrier settings

This update usually occurs automatically. But you can do it manually, too. Carrier settings updates are how your carrier brings their cellular-related software updates to your phone. Your iPhone 15 cellular data issues might be fixed by a carrier settings update.

  1. Ensure that your iPhone is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
  2. Open Settings.
  3. Select General.
  4. Choose About.

If you see a popup notifying you that there is a carrier update, tap Update. If you do not see any popup messages, your settings are up to date.

6. Are you using VPN?

VPN is known to cause connection problems. Are you using a VPN service? If you are not using a VPN service, do you have any VPN profiles installed? Let’s see if this is the problem:

If you are using VPN, turn it off. And test your issue. If the issue persists, see the next step.

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap VPN & Device Management.
  4. Tap VPN.
  5. Tap the(i) button next to the VPN profiles you have.
  6. Tap Delete VPN.

Now check if your problem is fixed.

7. Reset Network Settings

If you tried all of the above but nothing changed, it’s time to take a slightly more drastic step. Resetting your network settings. Doing this will reset the network settings to the factory defaults. This does not mean that your content or other data will be erased. Your photos, music, etc., will stay intact. One of the main things is that your Wi-Fi connections will be erased. Thus, you may want to copy your Wi-Fi passwords before you do the reset.

Resetting Network Settings can fix a variety of connection issues; thus, it may help when the cellular data connection doesn’t seem to be working on your iPhone 15.

  1. Tap Settings
  2. Tap General
  3. Tap Transfer or Reset iPhone.
  4. Tap Reset.
  5. Tap Reset Network Settings and follow the onscreen instructions.

8. Take out and readjust your SIM card

If none of the steps above did the trick, the problem might lie in an ill-positioned SIM card. If our iPhone 15 has a physical SIM card, eject it using the SIM card removal tool and carefully reposition it in its tray. Be careful when inserting it back into your device. Once you’re done, your cellular connection should be back to normal. If you see other SIM card issues, such as an “Invalid SIM” or “no SIM card Installed” error, it’s best to contact your network carrier and get a replacement SIM.

9. Contact your cell carrier

If you’ve tried everything else on the list and nothing seemed to fix your iPhone 15 cellular data not working problem, it’s time to contact your cellular service provider. This may be an issue they can help you with. You can always contact your cell carrier on social media, but sometimes a good old-fashioned call might address your concerns better. Here are the customer support numbers of the major US providers:

  • Verizon Wireless: 800-922-0204
  • AT&T: 611 from an AT&T phone or 800-331-0500
  • T-Mobile: 611 from a T-Mobile phone or 1-877-746-0909 from another phone
  • U.S. Cellular: 611 from a UScellular phone or 1-888-944-9400 from another phone.
